Grand Opening of FUIYOH! It's Uncle Roger Restaurant

Imagine waiting in line for an hour and a half just to get a taste of some highly anticipated fried rice. Would you do it? Well, that's exactly what happened to us at FUIYOH, in the bustling Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. FUIYOH isn't just any restaurant—it's the first culinary venture by the charming and always entertaining Mr. Nigel Ng, famously known as Uncle Roger.

The Battle for a Seat

As we approached FUIYOH! It’s Uncle Roger restaurant, the sight was nothing short of chaotic and joyful. The crowd was massive, buzzing with excitement and anticipation. Even though all the media and influencers had already graced the restaurant the day before, the excitement hadn't waned a bit. Waiting for an hour and a half was no joke, but the thrill made it worth every second.

A Simplified Menu with BIG Flavors

The menu at FUIYOH is surprisingly minimalist, offering fried rice, fried noodles, and some add-ons. But don't let the simplicity fool you! The star of the show is the special fried rice with sambal and fried eggs. If you’re wondering, sambal is a flavorful chili paste and dried chili—both add a punch of flavor to the dish although quite mild for local Malaysians I'd say.

A Refreshing Drink

Daxter, a fellow YouTuber, and I decided to try out their special lychee drink while toasting to Uncle Roger’s success. The drink was a refreshing touch that complemented the main course. The lychee’s sweetness blended perfectly, cutting through the spiciness of the sambal and dried chili.

Tasting the Hype

When the plate finally arrived, it was game on. The fried rice embedded with dry wok hei—a charred, smoky flavor that’s hard to achieve—was already looking promising. I couldn’t wait any longer and immediately dove in, starting just with the rice before adding the accompaniments. Adding the egg and dried chili took it to another level. Overall it was definitely a good fried rice but not great, perhaps it's the first day mad rush so another sampling session is required perhaps a few months later.

Paying the Uncle Roger Way

As we savored every bite, it was time to settle the bill. And in true Uncle Roger fashion, humor wasn’t left behind, thanks to Daxter. The banter about paying with MSG added an amusing touch to the end of a fun meal. Even the staff played along, making the entire experience memorable.

Wrapping up the culinary adventure, FUIYOH! It’s Uncle Roger restaurant did lived up to every bit of its hype especially on the fun factor. A sincere thanks to Uncle Roger for dropping by our table and being so kind as to go out and greet everyone at the massive queue, what a gentleman!
